Black caviar has long been a symbol of luxurious taste fit for the tsars. The Caspian Sea provided access to exquisite sturgeon fish eggs to Russia and Iran. Since those times, black cured roe has increased in popularity worldwide, making its way out of Russia. Sadly, poaching almost caused extinction of these precious fish, leading to aquaculture becoming the main source of sturgeon roe in modern times.

Out of the 27 species of sturgeon currently existing, roughly a handful are farmed, due to superior quality of its roe – Beluga, Ossetra, Siberian and Amur sturgeon along with Kaluga and some hybrid species – these pretty much cover sturgeon roe available on the market.  The prestige that comes from the history and long appreciation for refined taste can now be yours when you order Black Pearl brand caviar. Buy black caviar online and get it delivered right to your door.

Black Pearl Brand Premium Caviar

We offer premium black cured roe of several varieties including Bowfin, Kaluga hybrid, Ossetra and Hackleback sturgeon to fit any black caviar lover’s tastes. Below are the varieties of Black caviar for sale.

Bowfin Caviar

Bowfin is an ancient bony fish, native to North America. Our roe is harvested from natural Louisiana waterways yearly in the wintertime. Bowfin is a suitable, less expensive alternative for sturgeon roe because it is similar in appearance and reminiscent in taste.

Kaluga Hybrid Sturgeon Caviar

Kaluga, which is known as the largest fresh water fish, is interbred with the Amur sturgeon to produce this exotic roe. The roe grain is firm and over 3mm in diameter and ranges in color from golden to dark brown. This is a premium black cured roe and the taste is known to be buttery. There are no preservatives added to this imported cured roe.

Ossetra Sturgeon Caviar

Also known as Russian Sturgeon, Ossetra is a smaller premium sturgeon breed. The grain is firm and over 2.9mm in diameter. The roe has a rich nutty flavor and varies in color from light brown to dark brown. There are no preservatives added to this imported cured roe.

Hackleback Sturgeon Caviar

Hackleback is the smallest sturgeon species and is native to North America. Our fish eggs are harvested naturally from the Mississippi river. The grain is small and black in color and has a distinguished taste.

Price of black caviar

What is the cost of black caviar? Although, it is a luxury-good worth the price, and occasionally even called “black gold,” black caviar price does vary depending on the fish breed and grade of roe.

Our premium-quality Kaluga hybrid and Ossetra are imported, coming from a more mature prized fish, while the Hackleback roe is domestic. As a substitute for sturgeon roe, Bowfin fish eggs are often used, which are more easily accessible. Since our company is the largest importer of sturgeon roe on the West coast of the US, we are able to give our retail customers nearly wholesale prices. Black caviar remains a luxurious item, but now due to modern technology, it is more affordable and available to the public than ever before.

Health benefits

There are many health benefits to black caviar. Roe is meant to foster life of a new fish, meaning it is packed with vitamins and minerals. Cured roe is a great source of vitamins, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and a variety of amino acids, without any trans fats. Roe is known to be good for heart health, proper nervous system functions and for overall immune system health. Caviar is also believed to be beneficial for people fighting cancer due to its high concentration of iron. It is recommended for an adult to consume about 10mg a day and cured roe provides 2.5mg of iron in every 100g of black caviar.

How to serve?

Caviar is often used sparingly, as a spread or garnish; however, to enjoy its true flavor, it is best to make it the star of the dish. Traditionally, the jar of fish eggs is placed on a bed of shaved ice and served on crackers or bread with a mother-of-pearl spoon to preserve the integrity of flavor. If eating caviar for your own pleasure, in practice it has been found that using a regular plastic or metal spoon can be just as effective.

For optimum taste, always serve fish eggs chilled and ensure no other food, such as bread crumbs, have contaminated the caviar jar. Black caviar can be added to many appetizers, such as on top of oysters, blini (crepes), potatoes and even eggs to elevate your dish to fine-dining quality.  Russians prefer to have fish eggs on a piece of white French bread, with a healthy serving of butter, topped with caviar. Try pairing with champagne for the ultimate experience.
